Inconel 718 / Alloy 718 is a precipitation-hardenable nickel-chromium-based superalloy containing significant amounts of iron, niobium and molybdenum, together with smaller additions of titanium and aluminum. This composition provides a strong combination of high mechanical strength, good corrosion resistance and favorable fabrication characteristics.

Inconel 718 / Alloy 718 stands out for its comparatively good weldability despite its high strength, and it shows lower susceptibility to strain-age cracking than many other precipitation-hardened nickel superalloys. The alloy can be hot- and cold-formed; however, its high strength and work-hardening tendency require suitable tooling and controlled cutting conditions during machining. Aging after solution annealing significantly increases its mechanical strength. Inconel 718 / Alloy 718 is widely used where high mechanical strength is required from cryogenic conditions up to about 650°C, and may also be considered for service approaching 700°C under specific design and operating conditions.
