Grade Code UNS Nickel Alloys
Inconel 617 Alloy 617 (2.4663) N06617

Nickel Alloy Properties

Inconel 617 / Alloy 617, a nickel-chromium-cobalt-molybdenum alloy, combines exceptional high-temperature strength with excellent oxidation resistance. It retains mechanical strength and structural stability at elevated temperatures, while forming a protective surface scale in oxidizing atmospheres[cite: 20]. Its strong creep resistance also helps limit deformation during prolonged exposure to high temperature and sustained loading.

Additional Information

Inconel 617 / Alloy 617 is a solid-solution-strengthened nickel-base superalloy with good metallurgical stability and is not precipitation hardenable by conventional aging treatment. In addition to oxidation resistance, its strong resistance to carburization is especially valuable in high-temperature furnace and process atmospheres. For solution-annealed and welded components operating at approximately 550–780 °C, welding procedure and, where appropriate, stabilization heat treatment should be evaluated to reduce susceptibility to relaxation cracking.
