Grade Code UNS Super Duplex Stainless Steel
1.4501 X2CrNiMoCuWN25-7-4 S32760

Steel Properties

1.4501 is a super duplex stainless steel grade that combines high strength with excellent corrosion resistance. Its ferritic-austenitic microstructure provides strong resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking. Its high mechanical strength and fatigue resistance support a long service life under demanding operating conditions.

Offshore and Marine Seawater piping, pump shafts, propellers and impellers
Chemical and Petrochemical Reactors, pressure vessels, process piping
Water Treatment & Desal. High-pressure pipes, reverse-osmosis pump components, heat exchangers
Shipbuilding & Chem. Tankers Chemical cargo tanks, cargo piping systems, valves
Pulp and Paper Bleaching plant piping, process tanks, pump components
Power & Flue Gas Treatment Scrubber units, flue gas ducts, heat exchangers
Mining & Mineral Processing Slurry pumps, agitator shafts, abrasive-fluid piping

Additional Information

1.4501 has good weldability, provided that heat input, interpass temperature, and cooling rate are controlled. A suitable super duplex filler metal should be used; preheating and post-weld stress-relief annealing are not recommended. Its high strength requires rigid machinery, sharp tools, and consistent feed rates during machining. Cold forming is possible, although high springback may require more powerful equipment.
